Punta Cana is a cape on the east coast of the country, in the province of La Altagracia. It starts in the north with the Playa de Arena Gorda and continues to the Playa de Bavaro, Ubero Alto, Macao and the Playa Cortecito, ending at the Playas Cabeza del Toro, Cabo Engaño, Punta Cana and Juanillo. Its more than 40 miles of white sandy beaches, endless rows of palm trees, a turquoise sea and its luxurious and spacious hotel infrastructure make it the most visited tourist destination in the Caribbean year-round.
Surrounding the big hotel complexes you can see the small villages of huts, built with palm leaves and wood, where every day life continues for the inhabitants of the island. You can also learn about the island's past and its first occupants, and discover the Taino culture, which gave the first inhabitants of the island their name.
Punta Cana and Playa Bávaro are ideal for scuba diving and snorkelling. One of the most popular attractions in the area are the theme parks with exhibits featuring all kinds of animals. But there is a wide range of activities on offer to please every type of tourist, from the most adventurous (quad excursions, helicopter tours, jeep safari) to those seeking tranquillity and relaxation (beautiful beaches, sailing, spas) and families (marine parks, swimming with dolphins).
